Review: Thriller Live 10th Anniversary Gala

Thriller Live 10th Anniversary Gala – Lyric Theatre

★★★★★

There are now a few reviews of Thriller Live on my website and all are unanimous – this is an entertaining extravaganza that any Michael Jackson fan would be mad to miss seeing.

This performance was extra special though, because it was to celebrate a moonwalking ten years in the West End. 170 previous West End and tour cast members helped Thriller Live celebrate the 10th anniversary of opening night at London’s Lyric Theatre.

Original 2009 cast members Ben Forster and original young MJ Layton Williams (who starts performances next week as the new Jamie in Everyone’s Talking About Jamie) performed in the show. It was an absolute pleasure to once again be reminded of the legacy that Michael Jackson has left behind, gone far too soon but never forgotten.

This production is exactly how it should be, it’s about the man and the music but most importantly the dance! Choreography and Direction by Gary Lloyd are sensational and MJ’s vision of spectacular entertainment shines through. The cast should all be individually mentioned however that won’t make for stimulating reading so I’ll just mention a few, Wayne Anthony-Cole, Vivienne Ekwulugo, Haydon Eshun and David Julien. All are outstanding and give dazzling performances.

Both the set (Jonathan Park), and lighting designs (Nigel Catmur) do justice to creator and executive director Adrian Grant‘s original concept.

All the hits are there for you to enjoy from the early years of the Jackson Five to History MJ’s last album before his untimely death. Basically you just need to experience this show for yourself. It’s got a special place in my heart and is now my pick me up show, that I go to when I need one. A thrilling evening, spent in the company of the undisputed King of Pop’s  legacy.
