SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

Let’s face it, it wouldn’t be Christmas without going to see a festive, fun-filled, family panto. I have been a regular patron of the Mayflower pantomime since 1989 and I have to say Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of their best.

The stage was constantly full of colour and things to look at. It was a visual spectacular with some wonderful special effects. From the impressive magic mirror to some very large unexpected guests later on, there really was something for everyone. The Dwarfs cottage was a particularly lovely set followed closely by the Evil Queens lair. It was to be expected with the shows star that it would have a distinctly ballroom feel to it and from some of the costumes to the numerous glitter balls about the theatre, it didn’t disappoint.

An energetic ensemble, complete with babes from Lindsey Read School of Dance, executed some energetic and impressive dance moves with their strong voices filling the stage easily. Dance troop Flawless, as the Queens Men added some very welcome variety to the show in the form of some incredibly “Flawless” and complex dance and gymnastics routines.

Charlotte Haines as Snow White and Oliver Saville as Prince Harry of Hampshire both had stunning voices and a wonderful chemistry together. They also had great comic timing, whilst all seven of the Dwarfs (known as The Magnificent Seven) were sweet, lovable, funny and very clever in the way they used their costumes to create different effects.

The show was mainly about its three main stars however, The Chuckle Brothers were hilarious quite simply. Their perfect mix of stupidity, slapstick comedy and well-known catchphrases completely stole the show. They were the perfect foil for Craig Revel-Horwood’s evil Queen Lucretia who was sexy, sultry, evil and really rather beautiful with a powerful singing voice when belting out panto versions of well-known hits such as ‘One Way or Another’ and ‘Venus’

In summary this show is a must-see for everyone. Full of local based humour and variety for everyone, I defy anyone to leave the theatre without a smile on their face. A true good old traditional family pantomime perfect for everyone.
