Annie McKenzie is best known as an actress and writer, first and foremost. However in 2016 McKenzie appeared as a contestant on MasterChef. Her culinary talents meant that she reached the semi-finals. So what better way to combine both her two passions in life, than to create an exquisite fine dining theatrical experience? Scripts for Supper is exactly that. You’ll enjoy a retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night whilst being served an Elizabethan inspired five course feast by chef Annie McKenzie.

On entry you are warmly greeted by a host, with both a cocktail and delicious canapés. The inviting ambience exudes a feeling of social conviviality. An open plan kitchen reminiscent of current cookery programs, is visible at the end of the room. Whilst long tables set round the edges of the room allow space for the performance excerpts of Twelfth Night between courses.

Undoubtedly it is the veritable feast which takes centre stage here. However lets not lose sight of the talented actors. They alternate as both our hosts and waiting staff in between their retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. All four are strong in their portrayal of their characters. Clio Davies gives us a resilient, resourceful, and robust approach to Viola. Whilst the humour is drawn and delivered in abundance by Damien Hughes (Orsino). What makes Alice Trow’s Olivia especially stand out to me is her interaction with the audience. This combined with her mesmerising facial expressions and line delivery. And all is beautifully accompanied by Feste and Musician Edo Elia.

Truly a Magnificent Shakespearean Feast for one’s eyes and stomach!

Quite simply this is an experience you do not want to miss. Annie McKenzie has created something truly special here. Whilst there were only two opportunities to experience this theatrical five course feast on this occasion it is hoped that this is just the beginning of the journey.

Furthermore this is an event for established lovers of Shakespeare, divinely exquisite culinary delights or even people wanting to start an appreciation of ‘The Bards’ work, in a welcoming and sociable environment.

In summary this five course feast absolutely deserves five stars and ticks all boxes and more.
