News: Cast Announced for @MillieIsBack @LandorTheatre @SDWCProductions

Performances at Landor Theatre – Tuesday 18th August – Sunday 13th September 2015

This new production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, presented by SDWC Productions, marks the show’s triumphant return to London 12 years after it was first seen at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

Originally presented on Broadway in 2002, Thoroughly Modern Millie won six Tony Awards (including Best New Musical) and five Drama Desk Awards; the West End production was nominated for three Olivier Awards, also including Best New Musical.

Based on the popular movie and filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a villainess, the infamous Mrs Meers, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed show of madcap merriment.

Director Matthew Iliffe is one to watch. A recent graduate of the competitive StoneCrabs Young Directors’ Programme and one of the youngest directors on the London Fringe, Thoroughly Modern Millie is Matthew’s fourth production as director, having previously staged Simon Stephens’ Punk Rock (Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells), Jack Thorne’s Fanny & Faggot (Tabard Theatre, London) and Ella Hickson’s Precious Little Talent (Gobstoppers Festival, The Albany, Deptford). Matthew is also currently developing a new piece by playwright Claire Unwin. He comments: I am thrilled to have the chance to reimagine one of my favourite musicals at the Landor, a powerhouse of fringe musical theatre. We’ve assembled a dynamic, vibrant cast and team to bring this fresh, quirky and joyous new interpretation of the show to London this summer and I can’t wait to get started.

Set to be a delightful explosion of pure musical theatre cheer, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited romp that will have everyone dancing the Charleston. Set in New York in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life. It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz – a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behaviour were changing forever.
